The value of starting a blog
As I launch my new website preaching the benefits of blogging to clients, it makes sense that I should have one of my own! So, here it is, and here are my top three reasons why you should blog too…
1. Builds trust with your audience
Writing a blog give you the opportunity to showcase your knowledge and expertise! You can use your content to answer frequently asked questions, solve common concerns and demonstrate your authority on a subject.
Readers will begin to recognise you as someone who knows what they’re talking about and trust in you to deliver your products and services safely and effectively.
2. Drives traffic to your website
A 2022 study found that websites with blogs got 55% more traffic than those without!
Sharing snippets of your latest blog post on social media will encourage followers to click through to your website and become one step closer to booking your services.
And you can reach a new audience too. While followers on social media will likely know who you are, as will anyone looking you up by name in their search engine, there’s thousands of people who don’t know your name and will be looking for what you offer through the keywords they type in. For example, someone looking for my services may type in ‘copywriting’ or ‘freelance editor’.
By using keywords or phrases in your blog posts – in my case things like ‘writing’ or ‘blogging’ – your website will appear high in search results for people looking for these subjects and encourage new visitors.
Every time you publish a blog, it also means there’s one more indexed page on your website, giving you another opportunity to be seen by search engines and those looking for your products and services!
3. Creates content for other marketing material
Yes, I will be reusing this blog content on a social media post! Let’s face it, when we’re trying to run a business there’s little time for coming up with hundreds of ideas for daily social media posts.
And you don’t have to! Taking this blog post as an example, I could break it down into three social posts – one for each tip, sharing every other day.
Throw in a couple of ‘what I’ve been up to’ posts and a client testimonial; looks like I’ve got a week’s worth of social content!
You can also share an intro to your blog in your newsletter, filling space and encouraging more visits to your website.
If you’re feeling particularly creative and have lots more to say, you could even pitch your blog post topic to a relevant industry publication and offer to expand on it in a longer-form article.
So, there you have it – my top three reasons to start blogging! As always, don’t forget a call to action – what you want the reader to do after reading your post…
Mine is this: if you like the sound of blogging but don’t have the time or aren’t a confident writer, get in touch with me!
Writing and seeing the impact it has for businesses is what I love to do, so I’m sure I can help.
