Four Ways to Write Better Website Copy

Updated: Apr 6, 2023

Got lots to say but don’t know how to say it? Consider these key strategies…

1. Focus on the benefits

When you know so much about a product, it can be hard not to go off on a tangent describing it. Remember your potential customers just want to know how it will help them – so tell them.

Check out my Services page for examples. I use two sentences, one for each service I offer. The first highlights why you may want to consider this service, the second emphasises what the benefit is to you.

2. Write how your customers speak

Cut the industry jargon that no one understands – it doesn’t make you sound clever, just unrelatable. Use easy-to-read words that are familiar to your audience.

3. Create scannable content

People are tight on time and don’t read everything, so use headers, bullet points and bold key words. Make your sentences short and snappy – less than 20 words in each is ideal!

4. Make it actionable

Drive your customer forward with things they can actually do – find out more, book an appointment, share with friends.

Noticed how I’ve given you an actionable tip with each point I’ve made?!

If you don’t have the time to improve your copy, or simply can’t be bothered, give me a shout :)
